About
In his first residency at ANAM, exceptional musician and oboist David Walter shares his knowledge with ANAM musicians, leading them in two premieres.
One of the world’s most significant oboe pedagogues, David Walter was only 29 when he was appointed the youngest-ever oboe and chamber music professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He is also a conductor, composer, an active commissioner of new music and a tireless transcriber; in the interests of expanding the oboe repertoire, he has made more than 230 arrangements, one of which – his masterly arrangement of Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn – concludes this morning’s program
The concert also includes a classic for wind dectet, by Debussy’s friend and sometime-collaborator André Caplet. His Suite Persane is a beguiling souvenir of imperial France and its fascination with the exotic
Former Justice of the NSW Supreme Court, George Palmer is now a prolific and successful composer, and his new work, Here, Now, Always – written especially for ANAM’s woodwinds – cohort, will receive its world premiere performance.
