Port Fairy Regional Geotours is a leading eco tourism adventure along the spectacular Southern Ocean coast and its unique volcanic hinterland. Travelling with Mike Raetz a local geologist, half day tours leave on weekends at 1:00pm from the Port Fairy Visitors Centre, Railway Place Bank Street, or on demand. On Saturday we travel to the Tower Hill Volcano to hear the story of 'Fire and Ice', how this 'Maar' volcano and the Southern Ocean formed. From Tower Hill via The Crags, with their views of Julia Percy Island to the mouth of Yambuk Lake, Mike will tell the story of sea level and climate change and what Aboriginals witnessed for at least 50,000 years. On Sunday travel to the Budj Bim (Mount Eccles) Volcano in the Budj Bim National Park to hear the story of a 'Volcano and its Ancient People' You will visit this 'Lava or Shield' volcano that erupted 30,000 years ago, and look into the crater-lake. In nearby lava channels, you may touch the lava skin, and see what remains of the tunnel. Mike will interpret the volcanic landscape and explain how this is connected with Aboriginal occupation. Please call Mike to book a tour. Entry Cost Adult $75 - These are half day tours of 4 hours and cost $75 per person (minimum two). You may also tag along with no charge for children and teenagers.
